The complex between U1A and the 3'-UTR of its own pre-mRNA.

The overall architecture of the model proposed for the the U1A-mRNA regulatory complex is shown. The proteins are colored magenta and violet using the Cartoon display. The RNA is colored cyan and displayed as Sticks with a backbone trace. The N- and C-termini of the proteins and the 5'- and 3'-termini of the RNA are labeled.
Color and label the RNA stems and loops.
Stem 1 is red; stem 2 is green; and stem 3 is blue.
Box 1 and box 2 are colored CPK; the tetraloop ("TL") is cyan.

Viewing Tip: After coloring the RNA, choose Spacefill in the Chime menu to get an impression of regions of close contact between the protein and RNA and between the two U1A molecules.

The coordinate file for this display is derived from 3utr.pdb (waters and hydrogens were removed).
The modeling used to propose this structure is described in Jovine, L. et al. (1996) Structure 4 621. It was based on the crystallographic model for the U1A complex with the U1 snRNA. More details of the specific protein-RNA interactions of that complex can be viewed at U1A Protein Structure for Molecular Biology.

The image displayed on this page requires the Chemscape Chime plug-in.

A description of its use at this site can be found at the Chime Features page.
